SPORTS PHYSIOTHERAPY IN EDINBURGH THAT FIXES INJURIES AND ELEVATES PERFORMANCE

Advanced injury assessment and performance-driven rehab designed for athletes and active people who want to get back stronger, faster, and ready to train at their best.

Q Struggling with an injury that’s stopping you from lifting, running, rolling, or training properly?
Q Unsure how to return to full training without re-injuring yourself?
Q Want expert guidance that goes beyond basic rehab and actually improves performance?

Sports Physiotherapy at Fortis gives you more than a standard physio appointment.
Alongside a full clinical assessment, you’ll be taken into the gym for performance-level testing – strength, power, movement capacity, and the demands of your sport. This allows us to diagnose accurately, identify the true limiting factors behind your injury, and build a plan that actually carries over to training and competition.

You’ll leave with:
R A clear diagnosis
R A structured, sport-specific rehab plan
R Strength & conditioning guidance
R Practical steps to apply directly to your training
R The option to transition into personalised coaching if you want ongoing support

What is Sports Physiotherapy?

Sports Physiotherapy at Fortis goes far beyond traditional physio.
It combines expert injury diagnosis with performance-level testing, strength assessment, and sport-specific movement analysis – all within a fully equipped gym environment.

After your clinical assessment, we take you into the gym to test what really matters for your sport: strength, control, capacity, power, and how your injury behaves under realistic demands. This allows us to build a rehab plan that actually carries over to training, competition, and long-term performance.

It’s not just about getting out of pain – it’s about fixing the problem properly and returning you to your sport stronger, more confident, and harder to injure.

Our 4-Step Approach to Sports Physiotherapy

Our approach is comprehensive and tailored, focusing on not just the injury but your return to peak performance:

1
1

Detailed Assessment and Diagnosis

  • A full discussion of your injury history, training load, sport demands, and goals.

  • A precise clinical assessment to identify the true cause of your pain or limitation.

  • Clear explanation of your diagnosis and what needs to happen for full recovery.

  • If suitable, we immediately progress to gym-based assessment to see how the injury performs under real movement demands.

2
2

Sports-Specific Testing & Movement Analysis

  • Strength, control, mobility, and capacity testing carried out in the gym – not just on a treatment table.

  • Assessment of force production, asymmetries, movement patterns, and how you load through the affected area.

  • Identification of performance deficits that may have contributed to the injury or are limiting your return to sport.

  • Immediate feedback and simple corrections so you leave knowing exactly what’s going on.

3
3

Performance-Driven Rehabilitation Plan

  • A progressive, sport-tailored rehab plan built around your injury, your movement findings, and your sport’s specific demands.

  • Structured strength and conditioning exercises designed to rebuild capacity, confidence, and resilience.

  • Clear weekly progression so you consistently improve without flare-ups or guesswork.

  • Return-to-training guidance integrated from the start so you keep training safely throughout rehab.

4
4

Return-to-Sport & Injury-Prevention Strategy

  • Final-stage performance work to ensure you’re stronger, more stable, and more robust than before the injury.

  • Testing to confirm readiness for full training or competition.

  • Long-term strategies to prevent re-injury, improve performance, and support ongoing training demands.

  • Option to transition seamlessly into ongoing coaching if you want expert support beyond rehab.

STOP GUESSING. START PROGRESSING

Book your sports physio consultation and get a clear diagnosis, real performance testing, and a plan built to return you to your sport safely and at full strength.

I came here to undergo physio therapy as u had a soft tissue injury in my back from deadlifting that hadn’t gone away after 2 weeks. I met with alistair who was very welcoming and lovely, he put me through thorough testing to see where the problem was and also explained to me his thought process so I’d understand the problem instead of other places where they don’t explain. He was clearly experienced and intelligent and had a rehab program ready for me within a few hours. now my back is underway to get back to PB’s and competitions for my powerlifting. Thanks Alistair!

I started training with Alistair 6 months ago for lower back pain and a hamstring injury. I immediately appreciated Alistair's can do attitude combined with his expert knowledge of injuries and strength training. Yesterday, I hit my bodyweight on squats, and have my first race in years in two weeks. Thanks Alistair!

I can’t thank Alistair at Fortis enough for the incredible work he did on my rotator cuff and bicep tendon. After struggling with pain for months, I’m now completely pain-free and able to train again without any discomfort. The treatment plan was spot-on, and I felt supported throughout the entire process. Highly recommend for anyone dealing with similar injuries.

I went to Alistair for a physio appointment related to my hip. Not only did he give me good advice regarding my hip flexor rehabilitation but also helped me with my squatting technique. Alistair took the time to explain what the issue was as well as how to resolve it, and I now have no hip pain at all.

Brilliant experience working with Ali. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his coaching and really knows his stuff. I've been working with Ali for a while now and he has helped me develop my strength whilst rehabbing an elbow injury. The programme he has put together has been well thought out and personalised. He is quick to respond with feedback via WhatsApp and the regular drop in sessions give a great opportunity to get in person feedback. The injury rehab has been thorough - he won't just get you back to good enough he will do everything to make sure you have properly recovered. All the while giving a clear explanation of his assessment. If you are looking for either a strength coach or physio (or both!) then I would recommend getting in touch with Ali at Fortis.

Exercises provided by my previous physiotherapist just made my lower back problems worse. Ali provided me with a set of core strengthening exercises that I can do from home, and is also happy to advise via WhatsApp, which is invaluable.

I started coaching from Ali back in September after several problematic stints lifting. I'd previously had lower back pain and was seeking some help in lifting properly without injury, whilst also toning up. From a friend (a former champion powerlifter) recommending Ali, I had high hopes in fixing my form and getting into lifting heavier. Ali has all but exceeded my expectations for personal training and group coaching. He doesn't scream at you to do 100 reps, but gently pushes you past your limits to help you discover new horizons you never thought possible. His knowledge of training is second to none, fixing form issues and tweaking errors through visual demonstration, and consistently monitors your progress outside of sessions through spreadsheets and video updates. And he does all of it with a friendly and cheery demeanour. When I think back to when I started last autumn, my form was miles off proper technique and was only severing to injure myself further. Ali swiftly identified and corrected these issues, and now I am lifting far more than I ever was before. My general fitness has skyrocketed, and I no longer have any back pain. Without a doubt, I could not have achieved this without the help of Edinburgh's foremost coach and expert physiotherapist who goes the extra mile for you.
